Bike Porn Image of the Day: Spoke Coffee Stirer

During my trip to LA, I lived with a few cats that showed me LA biking. We stopped over at Golden Saddles Cyclery, who will be open by April, to catch up with some friends, and I caught this of Kyle stirring his coffee with a spoke. Ingenious.

While we're on the topic of coffee, this weekend was the Coffee Ride in San Francisco. While I was not able to make it, it looked like a great time and I will have to participate for the next one. What a beautiful Sunday it was too.

Eve & her Rock Lobster.

This is Eve and her Rock Lobster. When Eve's family didn't have the money to buy her a track frame, Paul Sadoff of Rock Lobster Custom Cycles donated this to her. Paul's world renowned for his craftsmanship. Usually, you never hear a story like this and I find it surprising that someone of his caliber can give back to the community like this. 24" wheeled track frames are not his norm, which means he had to spend a lot of time and research into building this very unique frameset. Hats off to a lucky girl and a superlative builder.

Chrome Kursk Shoes

A Little Story:

I remember when Chrome first launched their shoe campaign 2 years ago. I shot all over Mission handing out empty boxes redeemable at the shoe launch party. Most people were reluctant, but they knew 2 things: Chrome & free beer.

I got mine in September 09. A year and a half later, 3000ish miles of riding, running, and sloppy drunken nights, they did it all.

Problems I found wearing other shoes to ride in:
- Cages/Straps would rub in 3 problem areas; the big toe and on the sides of the foot
- No support in softer soles leading to a hotspot in the arch
- Laces would catch around the pedal spindle and lead to a sudden "stop"
- They look like hobo shoes after 1 month of riding

All these are solved. They offer a variety of colors and now, they have a SPD compatible version. I tried them out and they held securely when spinning out on the rollers in store.

Their stainless steel lockrings is CNC'ed to perfection and has the kind of detail that only a few other companies really seek out to extract themselves from the rest. Archive Bags presents a Brompton Custom Bag

Meet Victor, a local San Franciscan and creator of Archive Bags. I first met him a half year ago or so at a bike event and since then, have been excited to see his products at alleycats and shops around the Bay. He is really talented and that is only exemplified in his craft. Recently, he created a custom leather bag for Brompton Bikes.
