Quake City Rumble!

Oh, man. I almost forgot to post this. Quake City Rumble run by SF Bicycle Messenger Association is this weekend and that means alleycats to make your thighs sore and your liver die. If you don't know what QCR is all about, it's a benefit to raise money for Messengers who were hurt while on the job. Maybe you don't know, but when a messenger is injured, they practically lose their job. That means no pay, no benefits, nor anything else to help them until they're healed up.

Here's the schedule for the weekend:

Friday night- get there at 6:30, race is at 7… One Post- Race to registration! Registration to follow at the Tempest, Natoma @ Mary. 8pm-1:30 am

Caturday, July 2- all events run out of Potrero del Sol park

11:30 am- late registration
12:30- the pussycat
3:45- America, Fuck Yeah! (QCR’s first ever lady/trans only race)
6:00- cargo race

*BBQ all day hosted by Chrome. We’ll be playing some games, too

Sunday, July 3-

Noon- The Mountain Lion. City Hall.
7 o’clock PM- QCR Prom-themed Awards Ceremony After Party The Cave (3rd and Marin) featuring bands Hightower and Translators with DJs Serious Leisure and Rob Borders. PBR flowin’ all night with cheap well drinks.

For more info, show up at the Tempest Friday night, July 1.

QCR. Party time. Excellent. See you after the weekend!

Here's a snippit from last year:

Informative Cycling Commercial for... Something.

Just peeped this over at Deal With It's Blog. Seriously, Matt. No idea what she's saying, but sounds like I should be taking notes. Big notes.

Cannondale Black Lightning

http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

I swung through Irvine before my LA trip to meet Ania. She sent me a photo pic of her ride weeks ago and couldn't believe it til I saw it. A pristine Cannondale Black Lightning. I don't know which Black Lightning this is, but I'm assuming late 80's or early 90's. You can see more photos here. Here's the rundown:

Front/Rear Derailleur: Gold Anodized SSP
DT Shifters : Gold Anodized SSP
Crankset : Black SSP
Seatpost/Saddle : Black SSP/Unknown
Stem/Handlebars : Black Nitto
Brakes/Levers : Gran Compe Side Pull
Wheels : SSP to Wolber

P.s. - I probably should have taken more photos of the group, but I got caught up with photos of Ania. Now I know...

True Tattoo & BARF: Tattoos for Injured Cyclists

After the Fixation movie premiere, Sean took us to True Tattoo right off Cahuenga and Hollywood. I met Kelli who told me about BARF, Bicycle Accident Relief Foundation, and how they were raising money for the injured cyclist for the Culver City hit. With $60, you can choose from a set of bike related tattoos and peace of mind that the money is going to medical bills. This is ongoing as they will continue to raise funds for all cycling related incidents so come in anytime and ask for your BARF bike tattoo!

Thank you to Kelli, the owner, the rest of the artists and those involved. If you are interested in helping out, or want to know more about BARF, check out their Facebook page.

Fixation Movie Premiere Review

Fixation Movie Premiere Review:

If you weren't there to catch the LA premiere, I got a few words about it. The first fixed gear movie that came out was back in 2003, which means the documented scene has been around for almost a decade. While some directors follow the skate session feel, Fixation is more of a documentary from first hand accounts in different areas of riding. Bike polo, track racing, hill climbing, and fast streets. Most of the movie was filmed in SF and LA, and there's good conversation about the differences between them; SF has the hills, LA has the straight aways. While I could say a lot more about it, check it out for yourself in July and August when they come up to Livermore and SF. Great job, Alex. I know this will get a lot soon.
